
We think we know that teaching English starts with the alphabet, so it is a shock to hear that is no longer so.
Teaching with phonics not only enables children to learn faster, but it also enables all children to succeed and enjoy doing so. Jolly Phonics has helped define good phonics teaching and continues to be seen as the most effective.
It all starts with the letter sounds, so more than just the alphabet. Some sounds need two letters to be written, sounds like sh, ng and ee.
The old ways taught that words need to be memorised, but with phonics that is no longer so. Children learn to ‘blend’ the letter sounds together, with d-o-g making ‘dog’. It means they can read words they have not seen before. Similarly, they learn to spell by segmenting out the sounds in a word. They work out that ‘dog’ is made of the three sounds d-o-g, which they can then write.
In the training, this teaching will be explained, with the stages and the memorable ways which Jolly Phonics provides. The training with be given in person by Clare Fulton, a Jolly Phonics Trainer from Scotland, with an initial overview by Christopher Jolly, the publisher.

Clare Fulton (BEd Hons) is teacher and trainer who has worked in a wide variety of mainstream and additional support needs settings. The first Scottish trainer for Jolly Learning, she has travelled widely throughout the UK, delivering professional learning and guidance in private and state schools and she has worked extensively internationally with teachers, inspectors and management teams in Oman, Greece, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, KRI, Iraq, Mexico, Norway and Saudi Arabia. Clare has repeatedly witnessed the delight of parents and teachers as children have grown in confidence, having learned to read and write using Jolly Phonics. |

Refund Policy:
• If the workshop is canceled for reasons beyond our control and we are unable to find a suitable alternative time for most participants, IES will inform participants of the cancellation before 30/09/2026 and refund the actual paid registration fee only, additional expenses (such as hotel accommodations, transportation, etc.) are not eligible for refunds.
• If a registered participant notifies IES of their disability to attend before 30/09/2026, IES will issue a refund of the actual paid registration fee. However, if this notification occurs after 30/09/2026, IES will not be able to provide a refund.
